English Literature tuition for perceptive, confident writing.
One-to-one help with close reading, interpretation, quotations, context, essay structure and exam technique.
Develop an idea—and show how the text supports it.
English Literature asks students to combine careful reading with clear argument. They must notice how a text works, form an interpretation and select details that support it. When those stages blur together, essays can become descriptive, overloaded with quotations or disconnected from the question.
Oscar helps students slow the process down and make each decision visible. Together, tutor and student can unpack a passage, test an interpretation, choose useful evidence and build a logical paragraph. The goal is not to supply a single “correct” reading, but to help the student express a well-supported view with increasing independence.
Tuition can develop
- Close analysis of language and form
- Clear, relevant interpretations
- Purposeful use of quotations
- Connections between context and question
- Essay planning, expression and timing
Personalised around course, texts and feedback.
Lessons use the student’s current course and schoolwork as their starting point. Support may focus on understanding a difficult passage, making analysis more precise, structuring a full essay or applying teacher feedback. As exams approach, sessions can place greater emphasis on recall, planning and writing under time pressure.
Oscar explains techniques, models thinking and then gives the student space to practise. Feedback identifies both strengths and a manageable improvement. This helps the student see progress and use the same method when working alone.
GCSE and A-level tuition
At GCSE, tuition can help students establish reliable habits for reading questions, selecting evidence and constructing analytical paragraphs. At A-level, work can place greater emphasis on sustained interpretation, critical judgement and the coherence of a longer argument. In both cases, the teaching is adjusted to the individual rather than delivered as a fixed programme.
Most students meet Oscar for one hour per week. GCSE tuition is £40 per hour and A-level tuition is £45 per hour. Online sessions are available across the UK through Zoom or Microsoft Teams, with face-to-face tuition near Leeds.
